It is the time of the beginning of a new year when we have a look at what was accomplished in the last year. There is no doubt that the Fort Arabesque Resort, Spa & Villas has gone through many changes in 2017, in an effort to provide guests with the memorable experience. The investments put in renovations apparently paid off; as occupancy levels increased from 40% to 90%. Guests’ satisfaction records remarkably improved and recognized in the major social media in the hospitality industry. Repeaters keep coming back and recommending the Fort to friends and family.

Our number one investment was in our staff. They are more at ease which helped them provide this unparalleled standards of personalized and friendly service. Management improved the staff’s living conditions from accommodation to meals, uniforms, recreation. Most important, their income almost tripled, thanks to the increase in business.

The hardware had its share of upgrades and has seen major projects in the aim of providing a diversity of accommodations and dining options. The West wing was re-opened with a different image. Not just a change in the name to be the “West Bay”, but the concept of the 130 rooms and suites is calmer suiting guests who require pure relaxation in a beautiful setting.   Rooms were totally renovated, so is the restaurant and the all-new “Sunset Bar” with its cozy swimming pool.

On the other side of the resort, “Club 159” was born. This beach front bar and restaurant has been quite successful since it opened. Simply elegant and elegantly simple; the Club lunch menu features yummy Burgers, wood flamed oven Pizza, Panini selections, fresh salads and tropical desserts. Dinner in summer is a Brazilian BBQ and live Reggae music. Winter is an elegant A la Carte menu created by Chef Alain Raymond– a new addition to the Fort who was able to change the food in the Fort to better taste, presentation and variety. “Club 159” plays chill up music and features Jazz evenings in the winter season.

The food and beverage upgrade is evident, and guests now have an amazing diversity of dining and entertainment. “The Pavilion” new A la Carte menu is being changed bi-weekly offering luxurious appetizers and main course items, cooked to perfection by a qualified team of cooks. The main restaurants in both East and West bays now featuring sumptuous buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This improvement is being recognized by guests, particularly repeaters who appreciate the upgrade. The “Beach Bar” improved its all-day dining and the nightly barbecue is being quite popular to guests as it is included in the Fort All-Inclusive concept. A face lift was done in the “Wind Breaker” beach front bar and the Arena,

Rooms, Suites and Villas renovations continue, while Public areas and the shopping arcade are being re-modeled.

Back of the house upgrades were done to achieve high levels of safety, Hygiene and clean energy. New Fire system has been installed covering the entire resort from East to West to Villas. Total renovation of the main kitchen including flooring, drainage, walls, and equipment upgrade is being done. New boiler to be educate to the new state –of- the art laundry.

More attention was given to the sound and light systems in the resort, broadcasting better music depending on the outlet, and the lighting of the entire resort –including palm trees and up light the stone walls added to the charm of the Fort.

Fort Arabesque Resort, Spa & Villas has become a pioneer in Makadi Bay giving equal employment opportunities to all. A good number of ladies joined the team in various departments whether guest contact or back of the house tasks. Their performance and enthusiasm are evident and they are doing great.

We are giving more attention to the magnificent house-reef, and a new department – Reef Protection Crew- is now managed by Tanja Kort.

As much as it all sound much, we still have plenty of ideas that will be implemented in 2018 to improve guests experience in the Fort. The list goes on, but what matters is the positive feedback of our guests which encourage us as management and staff to keep going.
